Community Development and Social Services Minister, Hon Doreen Mwamba has officially commissioned the newly constructed Social Welfare Office block in Petauke District of Eastern Province.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony yesterday, Ms Mwamba said the office block which was constructed at a total cost of K389,025, will enable the Ministry to implement various social protection programs in the district effectively under a conducive working environment.
She noted that Petauke District had a good number of beneficiaries on social protection programs such as the Social Cash Transfer (SCT), Supporting Women`s Livelihood (SWL) and Food Security Pack (FSP) among others and further assured that more is being done to increase the number of beneficiaries in line with the new dawn government’s social protection agenda.
“The effective management of these programs requires a conducive working environment and adequate office space.
This does not only motive officers providing the service but also foster efficiency and accountability in service delivery,” the Minister said.
Meanwhile, the Minister also handed over some wheelchairs, blankets and food stuffs to children with disabilities in collaboration with Pamodzi Ndi Ana Organization.
And Pamodzi Ndi Ana Organization Executive Director Simonetta Dario pledged that her organisation which she co-founded with her husband Enrico Carretta will work closely with the Ministry in addressing the needs of children with disabilities in Eastern Province.
“We will make a difference in the lives of these children by working together. As an organisation, we help children with disability in many ways such as providing wheelchairs and training their parents and guardians on how to care for them,” Ms Dario said.
