President Hakainde Hichilema will this week participate in the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, marking it the first time since 2011 that Zambia has attended the meeting at the level of Head of State.
President Hichilema will be accompanied to Rwanda by First Lady, Mrs Mutinta Hichilema for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting which will be hosted by President Paul Kagame.
The Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting which is held every two years presents an opportunity for member states to review international political and economic developments, examine avenues for Commonwealth cooperation and explore ways of pooling resources and innovation to help transform common challenges into opportunities, according to Foreign Affairs and International Relations Minister Stanley Kakubo.
Mr Kakubo explains in a statement issued to Pungwa Online News that President Hichilema’s international engagements continue to be underpinned by his administration’s unwavering commitment to transform the country’s economy and create equitable opportunities for the Zambian people.
He further says government is actively designing and implementing interventions aimed at enhancing productivity in agriculture, mining, energy, financial services, tourism, technology, health and education among others, as such, the President’s high level engagements provide valuable opportunities for increased cooperation.
Prior to his visit to Rwanda President Hichilema will be in Belgium on Thursday where he is expected to address the European Union Parliament in Brussels at the invitation of Ms Ursula von DER Leyen, President of the EU Commission and Ms Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament.
