…..as he tells off DEC that no one will disclose the source of funding
Lusaka…. Wednesday, July 6, 2022 (Smart Eagles)
They can go to heaven, wherever they will go, we will not disclose, former PF Secretary General Davies Mwila says as DEC tries to squeeze answers over source of 2021 campaign funding out of him.
Speaking after his arrest today, Hon Mwila said DEC is contradicting itself in its conduct over the matter.
He asked if the Commission investigated other political parties regarding the matter in questions.
“No one will disclose the source of funding because as a political party you are out of line. They can go to heaven, wherever they will go we will not disclose. Because this is the abuse of the law,” he said.
“Are they investigating UPND, where they got the money, where they got the vehicles? Are they investigating Socialist Party? So they are contradicting themselves. So it will not go anywhere. We are very strong and they can’t intimidate us.”
DEC has arrested and charged Hon Mwila for being in possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Hon Mwila’s lawyer Kambwa Aongola told the media in Lusaka today that his client was being questioned in connection with campaign funds during the 2021 elections.
The accused has since been released on bond and is currently appearing before the Joint Investigations Team for another interrogation.
Prior to his arrested, Hon Mwila said he was ready for DEC.
“They have told us in few minutes’ time they will call us. We are very much ready for them, very strong,” he said.
The issue of campaign funding has for a while been a heated up debate as some sections of society have argued that there is no law that provides for the political to disclose source of funding.
