A 17-year old juvenile identified as Howard Banda of Kasenengwa District in Chipata died after drinking a suspected love concoction.
Deputy Police spokesperson Danny Mwale has disclosed that consequently, police are holding a 14 year-old juvenile suspected to be the girlfriend to the deceased and her grandmother aged 52 identified as Eliza Tembo who is alleged to have supplied the love concoction to her granddaughter.
Mr. Mwale says police initial investigations revealed that on July 1, 2022 the deceased, who was taking care of cattle together with his friend, is said to have eaten nshima around 12:00 hours prepared by his girlfriend.
He says after his friend ate a lump of nshima, the deceased stopped him stating that his girlfriend prepared food enough for him alone.
He is the two juveniles continued looking after cattle until evening when they both developed diarrhea and started vomiting.
“The deceased who was severely hit was taken to Chipata General Hospital where he died on July 4, 2022 around 01:00 hours.
“Body of the deceased is in the hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem. Police have opened an inquiry file in the matter to establish the actual cause of death,” Mr. Mwale said.
