TEACHERS CHALLENGED TO BE INNOVATIVE

Army Director General of Education, Libraries and Museums (ELM) Branch, Brigadier General Kennedy Sialoombe has challenged teachers to be innovative in carrying out their duties, especially, those involved in teaching practical subjects.

He said that the role of teachers is to shape the future of their learners. He has since urged the teachers to deliver high-quality practical lessons that will have an impact on the lives of learners.

Brig Gen Sialoombe was speaking yesterday at Arakan Boys Secondary School in Lusaka when he unveiled the “Arakan Boy” statue which was erected by a teacher, Sergeant Chikwanda Boniface.

Sergeant Chikwanda, with the help of his Grade 12 Art pupils (Njilikao Tembo, Paul Njobvu, Steven Mukiku, Maxwell Chileshe, Aston Zulu and Emmanuel Phiri), erected a nearly life-size sculpture of a boy depicting a School pupil at the Army-aided School.

Brig Gen Sialoombe thanked the Arakan Boys School management for coming up with the idea of erecting a statue. He commended the teacher and pupils who took part in the project. He said the artwork was a testimony that teaching and learning had taken place in the subject of Art and Design.

Brig Gen Sialoombe explained that art fosters creativity, innovation, and economic empowerment at individual and national levels. He added that art and design introduce pupils to their potential careers in visual arts, heritage, cultural, digital and design media industries.
