BAR OWNERS ANGERED BY DR. SAMPA’S ALCOHOL BAN CALL
The Bars and Night Clubs Owners Association of Zambia has described as total lunacy, calls by Dr. Brian Sampa for government to ban alcohol blaming it for the increasing cases of diseases, Gender-Based Violence, road traffic accidents, and divorces among other vices.
Dr. Sampa, the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia President this morning embarked on a 140 kilometers walk from Lusaka to Kabwe under the hashtag “Ban Alcohol Movement” to sensitize the general citizenry about the dangers of consuming alcohol and to pursue government to ban it.
But Peter Mwale, the Association President says unless Dr. Sampa has statistics to prove his allegations, blaming the atrocities on alcohol is wrong and a misrepresentation of facts.
Mr. Mwale said alcohol is a big industry globally that pays huge taxes to governments through producers and bar owners and employs millions of people.
He has urged Dr. Sampa to redirect his energies to Hospital wards, a cause bar owners will support failure to which a demonstration will be called by the Association against him.
