REGION 5 ATHLETES AT COMMONWEALTH GAMES RECEIVE MOTIVATION

As the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games gets heated up in England, athletes from Countries part of the African Union Sports Council Region 5 have been urged to emulate heroes and heroines that have made the region great and mint medals at various competitions.
AUSC Region 5 Chief Executive Officer Stanley Mutoya in his message of goodwill to the athletes said “AUSC Region 5 is particularly proud to have contributed to the successful and illustrious careers of some of the athletes competing in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
A good number of these athletes have participated in the Region 5 Youth Games which they have used as a launchpad to international stardom”.
He disclosed that the Region is being represented by 9 out of the 10 member countries whose athletes will compete in numerous sporting events for the next two weeks.
“Our region is proud of the achievements our athletes have scored through hard work and determination to make it into their respective teams representing their respective countries at the games. We are highly optimistic that the long hours of training will result in podium performance and winning of medals by our beloved athletes” he said in a statement released on 29 July 2022.
He added that athletes should draw their inspiration from Commonwealth Games medalists like Hon. Dr Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe, Nigel Amos of Botswana, Frank Fredricks of Namibia, Samuel Matete of Zambia, Caster Semenya of South Africa, and Maria Mutola of Mozambique among others.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Birmingham 2022, is an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that is taking place in Birmingham, England from 28 July to 8 August 2022.
