PHENOMENAL YOUTHS ASSOCIATION TO UNDERTAKE A SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE CAMPAIGN
….Over 50 youths trained in sexual reproductive health.
The Phenomenal Youths Association, a youth-led organization, with support from UNAIDS Zambia, will be carrying out a sensitization campaign on sexual reproductive health, where ‘men lead the way.
The campaign which targets males between the ages of 15 and 34 seeks to promote gender balance on issues of contraception.
The project which targets to engage over 7500 males countrywide, will be done in Lusaka, Copperbelt, Central, Southern and Eastern provinces respectively and seeks to encourage men to take part in male contraceptive methods such as vasectomy and effective usage of condoms.
Project Manager, Mr Felix Mbewe in an interview, emphasized that the programme targets youths because they are the majority who can bring about the change concerning sexual reproductive health.
Mr Mbewe acknowledged that there are a lot of imbalances when it comes to contraception, hence the effort to promote that balance by making sure that men also participate in the process.
“When you visit health facilities, you will find out that 80% of women are the only ones that take up the role when it comes to contraception, but we want men to also take up that role to balance up that equation,” Mr Mbewe said.
Meanwhile, about 50 youths recently attended a workshop in Lusaka where they were educated on how to teach the community members about issues relating to sexual reproductive health.
The youths have since started going to communities to collect data and see how much knowledge members of the public have regarding SRH.
