President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has launched the National Decentralization Policy and Commissioned the Zambia Devolution Support Program -ZDSP-.
The decentralization policy is aimed at enhancing accountability and transparency
among local authorities.
And President HICHILEMA says decentralization is important in taking government services closer to the people.
He says his administration is committed to expediting the decentralization policy which is evidenced in works done within a short period of being in office.
Speaking during the launch and commissioning of the two programs in Chongwe today, President HICHILEMA said resources are now disbursed on the same day across all constituencies compared to what used to happen previously.
And President HICHILEMA said beneficiaries of empowerment funds under CDF can create a lot of jobs if supported.
And Local Government Minister GARY NKOMBO said the decentralization policy will strengthen accountability of local authorities and build capacity.
He said the ZDSP comprises two support lines amounting to about 210-million dollars financed by the World Bank.
And speaking on behalf of Cooperating Partners, German Ambassador to Zambia ANNE WAGNER-MITCHEL said the change in the policy if implemented effectively can trigger strong economic development and improve lives of citizens.
And Lusaka Province Minister SHEAL Mulyata said Provinces and districts are ready for decentralization as President HICHILEMA works on fulfilling his campaign provinces.
