National TeQball tournament launched


TeQball Federation of Zambia has successfully launched the first-ever national Championship which has seen six provinces participating.

Federation president Dickson Jere expressed hope that once the championship comes to a conclusion a national team will be formed and see athletes start competing with other countries.

He added that the turnout of teams taking part is motivating adding that more of these competitions will be conducted regularly.

And Jere disclosed that his federation has continued to receive positive feedback from other people who want to register their clubs and teams saying two years after introducing the sport in Zambia it has proven to be a household name.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts permanent secretary Kangwa Chileshe graced the launch on behalf of the Minister Hon. Elvis Nkandu MP and announced that teqball will be among the sports disciplines which will be added to the national youth sports festival that his ministry introduced. He said his ministry supports all sports disciplines adding that government usually funds these sports codes based on their budget.

The teams participating are; Zambezi Teqball Club, OYDC Teqball Club, Olympiafrica, Monze Teqball, Kabwe Teqball Club, Luapula Teqball Club, Alfred Foloko Foundation (Chamuka), and Nkwazi Teqball Club.

In attendance to witness the national championship was Teqball Federation of Zambia General Secretary Boniface Kambikambi who is also NOCZ Secretary General, National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) Acting General Secretary Raphael Mulenga, OYDC Zambia Chief Executive Officer Dr Fredrick Chitangala, Coaches, and other invited guests.

Teqball was officially launched in Zambia in 2020 and is a ball sport that is played on a curved table, combining elements of football and table tennis. Back and forth, the players hit a football with any part of the body except the arms and hands. Teqball can be played between two players as a singles game, or between four players as a doubles game.
