After coming back from a drinking spree and not finding any nshima reserved for him, a 50-year-old grandfather of Madzi-a-Tuwa Resettlement Scheme in Chipangali aimed a hoe at his wife, but it inadvertently landed on his four month-old granddaughter, who was on her back.
The hoe hit the baby right on the head. She died on the spot.
A vigilante at Madzi-a-Tuwa Resettlement Scheme, located off the Chipata-Lundazi road about 70 kilometers from Chipata City, Julius Tembo, told Zambia Daily Mail in an interview yesterday that the incident occured on Monday around 17:00 hours.
“The baby died on the spot after being hit by his grandfather, who wanted to hack his wife for not leaving nshima for him” Mr Tembo said.
He said Panias Nkhuwa picked a fight with his wife, Memory Chilinda, over nshima after a returned home from a drinking spree.
