Government has demanded for a refund from Mahogany air over the chaotic travel arrangement that resulted in the failure by government officials and fans to travel to Ivory Coast for an AfCON qualifier.
Last week Friday government officials and soccer fans were left stranded at the airport and failed to travel for the Africa Cup qualification match after a reported technical fault on a Mahogany Chartered plane.
And Sport Minister Elvis Nkandu has clarified that the total amount that government paid to Mahogany air was $224, 000 and not $275, 000 as it was reported in some section of the media.
Nkandu says what transpired on Friday was regrettable and that the Ministry incurred costs in the process to which they demanded for a refund.
The Minister has emphasized that refund is non-negotiable and that should there be unwillingness from the part of the airline, government will consider taking a litigation route.
And Mahogany Air Chief Executive Officer Jim Belemu says his company takes full responsibility of what transpired but it was not of their making but due to unforeseen circumstances.
Dr Belemu says his company is willing to refund government but that calculations and discussions will be done with the ticketing office.
