There was a road traffic incident which occurred on June 7, 2022 at around 14:00 hours at Lumumba/Kafue road traffic lights in which our Traffic Officer while regulating traffic was almost run over by a Hino Ranger truck registration number BAK 1346 driven by Smart Phiri aged 29 of Kamwala South area in Lusaka.
The incident happened when the said driver disobeyed traffic signals and drove on almost hitting the Officer who, in trying to save his life, jumped on to the front bull bar and swung for some time while the Hino truck was still in motion.
The Officer managed to throw himself off the moving vehicle and sustained some minor injuries.
He was rushed to Chawama Level 1 Hospital where he was attended to and later discharged.
Smart Phiri did not stop the vehicle. Other motorists gave a chase and managed to apprehend him.
Police have charged and arrested him for Attempted Murder contrary to Section 215 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
He is detained in police custody waiting for court appearance while his motor vehicle has been impounded.
