Zambia Daily Mail reports that the current law does not allow people who are over 45 years to be engaged as civil servants for the first time, Parliament has heard.
Vice-President W.K Mutale Nalumango, however, says Parliament can amend the law through a motion. Mrs Nalumango said this yesterday during the Vice Presidents’ question time.
This was in response to Petauke Central Member of Parliament (MP) Emmanuel Banda (independent) on Government’s plans to employ teachers who are above 45 years.
“You can bring a motion to change the retirement age. Every institution has their own entry [age], for the defence, it is 18 or 22 [years]. It is unfortunate but there is nothing we can do for now,” she said.
