Chomba Musika Reports: A 49-YEAR-OLD man of Lusaka’s Linda Township who allegedly repeatedly defiled his teenage daughter until she fell pregnant and bore a son has been found with a case to answer for incest.
The accused, Rodrick Nyambe, has been placed on his defence to exonerate himself from the allegation, which carries a mandatory sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment.
Ironically, Nyambe told magistrate Judith Chiyaika that he will call his wife, who is reportedly on the run, to defend him when he opens his defence on Friday.
Nyambe is charged with incest, which he is said to have committed between January 1, 2013 and December last year.
Allegations are that Nyambe, a farmer, started defiling his daughter when she was eight years old.
The first incident happened when Nyambe asked his wife to go and sell beer and only returned home around 02:00 hours.
While his wife was away, Nyambe sneaked into his daughter’s bedroom and had sex with her.
The stepbrother later convinced her sibling, now aged 17, to report the matter to the police.
After the prosecution closed its case, magistrate Chiyaika ruled that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the accused.
“The court finds the accused with a case to answer and I place him on his defence,” the court ruled.
Nyambe told the court that he will give evidence on oath and will call his wife as a witness.
