POLITICIANS CONDEMNED FOR USING THE CHURCH AS A POLITICAL BATTLEGROUND

A Catholic member has strongly and unreservedly condemned the continued use of the Church, specifically the Catholic Church, as a political battleground by politicians.
Some politicians have been frequenting the church to discuss political issues.

Being a staunch Catholic member, former Mishikishi councillor, Mr Delight Mutale has since condemned the continued ‘abuse” of the church by politicians who are using every platform they get to talk about politics.

He has expressed disappointment that the Church which is sanctified and non-political has been reduced to a political battleground without regard for the role it has, which is to embrace all people regardless of their political affiliations.

“I have no problem with politicians going to churches but turning the church into a campaigning arena is my problem” Mr Mutale has said.

He says whoever is allowing this must be ashamed because doing so, is dividing not only the Church but society as a whole, considering that people regardless of their political affiliations deserve a place of worship and fellowship.

“Am a Catholic and in the Catholic we respect the church because of the holy Eucharist which is kept there, so allowing a political rally to be held in Church is a very big Insult and direct disrespect to the Church” he has further said.

He has called on Church leaders to reflect on the need to leave the church neutral as opposed to allowing politicians to use it to advance their political agendas at the expense of national unity.

Mr Mutale has further challenged politicians to exercise sobriety and reflects on their conduct even as they seek to engage with their members, without dividing the church.
