POLICE say they will give an update on the fate of the five people arrested in connection with the abducti0n of 13 young women.
A fortnight ago, Police rescued four mobile money agents and nine nursing students who had been held for weeks in a house in Lusaka’s Chalala area.
One person was arrested on the scene of the rescue before two others who were said to be former school mates of the victims were arrested in Western Province the following day.
Last week, home affairs minister Jack Mwiimbu told the nation two more people had been arrested bringing the number of suspects to five.
It has been sixteen days since the young 13 women were found in a horrific condition in a Chalala mansion and taken to the hospital for medical attention.
They were later taken in by Government through the Ministry of Community development and put in a safe house for them to recuperate and undergo psychosocial counselling after a traumatizing experience.
In earlier reports from #Kalemba, Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said they needed ample time to investigate further in order to come up with the right charges as the suspects committed a lot of offences in the matter.
Hamoonga said police were mandated by law to charge suspects in 48 hours or within a reasonable time for them to conclude their work in finding the right charge.
It has been over two weeks now since the suspects were arrested and when #Kalemba contacted Hamoonga, he said police will give an update on the matter today.
