The Catholic Church has hailed the impact of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF),in communities across the country.
Reverand Fr. Ferena Lambe ,Minister Provincial of the Franciscan Frairs in Zambia and Malawi, has observed that the CDF is life changing and requires appreciation from all stakeholders.
Speaking during Sunday’s mass at Ndola’s Franciscan centre, Fr Lambe however regretted that the ambitious CDF programme has not been publicized or pronounced enough for it to be fully appreciated.
Fr Lambe, who recently, together with other priests from Ndola, Luanshya and Kitwe, embarked on a CDF farmiliarization tour in Ndola’s Chifubu Constituency noted the need to support such ambitious projects by all stakeholders, including priests.
He therefore called on the need to detach politics from issues that are development centred, in the interest of working together to achieve change.
“Why can’t you tell us what you are doing, where is the CDF” ,Fr Lambe questioned, as he challenged people not to be theorists, but be proactive on issues that pertain to life and human development.
He said the many CDF projects in the country such as maternity wards, will benefit the majority in communities, hence the need to ensure there is collective participation in issues of national development.
Meanwhile, Fr Lambe has expressed appreciation to President Hakainde Hichilema for the emphasis he has been putting on the need to embrace the progressive CDF.
He said what is more progressive is the fact that government intends to increase the CDF allocation from the current 25.7, to 57 Million Kwacha.
He said constituency members, including small christian communities, priest and all stakeholders, must take advantage of the opportunity to claim their fair share of the fund in order to improve their various communities, in line with President Hichilema’s encouragement when he visited Copperbelt recently.
