A 4-year-old boy of Lusaka’s Kamwala area has died after being burnt to death in an inferno that engulfed the house he was in on 26th December,2023 around 23:40 hours.
Father to the Victim, Abdul Mwanza reported the incident at Kabwata Police Station, stating that his son was pronounced dead at the University Teaching Hospital.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, explains that both parents to the deceased went to park their vehicle at a named car park and also to buy candles around 23:30 hours, leaving their two aged 4 and 8 at home alone.
It is alleged that the two were sleeping in the house with a candle lit and after a few minutes, the couple went back home only to find their house on fire.
Hamoonga says their neighbours were found attempting to put out the fire and it was later discovered that their 4-year-old child was burnt while the 8-year juvenile managed to escape without burns.
The deceased child was rushed to University Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead, with Police investigations indicating that the fire was caused by the candle.
