VICE president Mutale Nalumango writes….
“About Five months ago, President of the Republic of Zambia Mr. Hakainde Hichilema assigned me (her Deputy Chief Marketing Officer) to lead a team of Ministers and other Senior Government Officials to the Arab Republic of Egypt to take part in the recently held COMESA summit.
I took advantage of that trip to meet a number of investors and explained the mandate of the New Dawn Government. I emphasized much on how creating jobs for our people was a critical matter, via private partnership strategy.
Today, I welcomed Mr. Mohamad Hassan, the country manager of El Sewedy Electric Company who wants to invest in various areas, among them, setting up a complete plant that starts from Mining, Processing and Producing the very final product.
This is one of the ways Zambia will develop. We won’t just export copper but also take special interest in processing the commodity and come up with the final product. Why should Zambia export Copper Cathode when it has companies that can process it and come up with a complete copper rod for the wire and cable industry.
We can produce brass, copper tube and copper sheet products. But as expected, I discussed all this with El Sewedy Electric Company on a condition that it must partner with indigenous Zambians.
